How do we know our Essential Oils are pure? 

Because the following rigorous testing procedures are carried out for each new batch of essential oil

 

1         Gc-ms for composition and also look for contaminants like phthalates.

2         Search by ion pattern on low quality matches to determine unknown and buried chemicals.

3         Cross reference retention time against ion pattern on low quality matches to determine unknown and buried chemicals.

4         Gc-ms method looking for pesticides, herbicides and contaminants.

5         Headspace analysis looking for added alcohols, benzene and the like.

6         HPLC to quantify the amount of ethanol in Jasmine.

7         GC-FID chemical calibrated method, if needed, to help quantify area percentages.

8         A density test

9        An aroma test

Basil, Sweet

Character: awakening, clarifying, stimulating. Used to counteract: mental fatigue, mental exhaustion, negativity, lack of direction, flu, addiction, insect bites, insect repellent, gout, bronchitis, flatulence, scanty periods, anxiety. Blends well with:  bergamot and other citrus oils, frankincense, geranium, clary-sage, hyssop, lime. SAFETY:  Do not use during pregnancy.  Use in moderation on sensitive skin.

 

Benzoin

Character:  heart warming, euphoric, happiness, contentment. Used to counteract:  addiction, anger, aggression, arthritis, asthma, warms and tones the heart & circulation, stress. Blends well with:  jasmine, frankincense, cypress, lemon, coriander, juniper, rose, sandalwood, myrrh. SAFETY:  Skin sensitizing.

 

Bergamot

Character:  joyous, refreshing, uplifting, encouraging. Used to counteract:  depression, anxiety, exhaustion, grief, acne, cold sores, eczema, psoriasis, varicose ulcers, loss of appetite, flu, stress, tension, emotional imbalances. Blends well with:  cypress, geranium, chamomile, lavender, coriander, lemon, juniper. SAFETY:  Use in moderation on sensitive skin.

    

Black Pepper

Character: security, comforting, directional, endurance. Used to counteract:  emotional blockages, compulsions, anaemia, arthritis, muscular aches & pains, poor muscle tone, constipation, indecision, irrationality, frustration, emotional coldness. Blends well with:  citruses, frankincense, sandalwood, patchouli, lavender, rosemary, marjoram. SAFETY:  May be irritating when used in high concentration.  Do not use on face.

   

Cajaput    

Character:  camphoraceous-medicinal odour,slightly fruity. Used to counteract:  hypochondria, urinary infection, cystitis, urethritis, viral infections. SAFETY:  May be irritating when used in high concentration.  Do not use on face.

    

Cedarwood    

Character:  grounding, strengthening, dignified, powerful. Used to counteract:   fixation on past, anxiety, acne, dandruff, eczema, hair loss, leucorrhoea, gloomy thoughts, rheumatism. Blends well with:  jasmine, cypress, bergamot, vetivert, clary-sage, juniper, rosemary, ylang ylang. SAFETY:   Do not use during pregnancy.

 

Chamomile Roman

Character:  harmonizing, peaceful, soothing, spiritual. Used to counteract:  nervousness, irritability, temper, anger, boils, dermatitis, earache, eczema, inflammations, teething, colic, indigestion, impatience, spiritual disconnection. Blends well with:  jasmine, clary-sage, bergamot, lavender, geranium, rose, citruses, and ylang ylang. TIP:  A very powerful essential oil, only lowest concentration required, especially when used for allergies.  May cause dermatitis in some individuals.

 

Cinnamon        

Character:  warming, secular, fair-minded. Used to counteract:  instability, spasm, lice, poor circulation, anorexia, colitis, sluggish digestion. Blends well with:  ylang ylang, orange, mandarin, benzoin, ho leaf, cedarwood, coriander, rose, sandalwood. SAFETY:  Possible irritant, best to use in moderation on the body.

 

Citronella      

Character:  refreshing, active, penetrating Used to Counteract:  excessive perspiration, oily skin, colds, flu, fatigue, headaches, migraine, neuralgia.  Blended with cedarwood it makes a wonderful remedy against mosquitoes. Blends well with:  lemon, bergamot, geranium, orange, cedarwood, rosemary, and pine. SAFETY:  Non-toxic, generally non-irritant but may cause dermatitis in some individuals.

    

Clary-Sage     

Character:  euphoric, restoring, harmonizing, warming. Used to counteract:  nervousness, changeability, worried, claustrophobic, hair loss, opthalmia, ulcers, high blood pressure, labour pain, impotence, migraine, depression, nightmares, hostility, wrinkles, amenorrhoea, dysmenorrhoea, emotional debility, guilt. Blends well with:  geranium, juniper, lavender, pine, cedarwood, frankincense, coriander, cypress, sandalwood, vetiver, marjoram, bergamot, and other citrus oils. SAFETY:  Do not use during pregnancy. Do not use while drinking alcohol.

    

Clove Bud     

Character:  contentment, creativity, focus, happiness, self-awareness. Used to counteract:  acne, athlete’s foot, bruises, toothache, ulcers, pain, feelings of worthlessness. SAFETY:  Use in low concentration and moderation on sensitive skin.

    

Coriander       

Character:  enlivening, motivating, encouraging. Used to counteract:  weariness, accumulation of fluids or toxins, gout, arthritis, gout, anorexia, migraine. Blends well with:  clary-sage, bergamot, jasmine, citronella, pine, sandalwood, cypress, cinnamon, ginger and other spice oils. SAFETY:  Possible irritation on sensitive skin, cross sensitivity reported with fennel and anise, avoid with breast cancer.

 

Cypress    

Character:  protective, righteous, wise, direction. Used to Counteract:  opinionated, emotional turmoil, inconsolable, haemorrhoids, Pyorrhoea, varicose veins, oedema, poor circulation, menopause, tearful, regret. Blends well with:  cedarwood, lavender, marjoram, clary-sage, pine, sandalwood, citruses, chamomile, juniper, benzoin. SAFETY:  avoid in pregnancy, high blood pressure, and with cancers, uterine & breast fibrosis.

 

Eucalyptus

Character:  energy, stimulation, balance, sheltering. Used to counteract:  exhaustion, heated emotions, mood swings, lack of concentration, burns, blisters, herpes, muscular aches, rheumatoid arthritis, sinusitis, chickenpox, headaches. Blends well with:  marjoram, rosemary, thyme, lavender, cedarwood, pine, lemon, sandalwood.

    

Fennel, Sweet  

Character:  clearing, resolute, enlightened. Used to counteract:  emotional and mental blockages, boredom, unable to adjust, bruises, cellulite, obesity, edema, anorexia, colic, hiccough, insufficient milk in nursing mothers, menopause. Blends well with:  geranium, rose, sandalwood, lavender. SAFETY:  Do not use if epileptic or pregnant, narcotic in large doses.

 

Frankincense

Character:  elevating, spiritual, meditative, wisdom. Used to counteract:  blockages, dry and mature skin, scars, wrinkles, colds, flu, asthma, anxiety, disconnection, repression, self-destruction, apprehension, despair. Blends well with: vetivert, geranium, lavender, sandalwood, pine, bergamot, basil, cinnamon,.

 

Geranium

Character:  balancing, healing, uplifting, comforting. Used to counteract:  anxiety, depression, acne, broken capillaries, oily skin, mature skin, ulcers, cellulite, engorgement of breasts, adrenalcortical glands and menopausal problems, PMT. Blends well with:  rose, patchouli, lavender, bergamot, clove, sandalwood, jasmine, juniper. SAFETY:  Sensitivity in certain individuals may occur.

Ginger
Character:  warming, strengthening, encouraging. Used to conteract:  sexual anxieties, lack of direction, fatigue, muscle aches, poor circulation, congestion, diarrhoea, colic, indigestion, lack of appetite, motion sickness, morning sickness. Blends well with:  patchouli, frankincense, sandalwood, vetiver, cedarwood, rose, coriander, lime, orange, and other citruses. SAFETY:  Sensitivity in certain individuals may occur.

 

Grapefruit

Character:  radiating, cheering, joyful, liberating, boosting. Used to counteract:  depression, self criticism, promotes hair growth, tones the skin & tissue, obesity, water retention, cellulite, muscle fatigue, chills, headaches. Blends well with:  rosemary, lavender, geranium, cypress, lemon, bergamot. Tip:  Best if used within one year of purchase.

 

Helichrysum 

Character:  harmonizing, caring, warming. Used to counteract:  abscess, acne, allergic conditions, dermatitis, scars-even old scars, Chronic coughs, asthma, liver congestion, bacterial infections, lethargy, neuralgia. Blends well with: chamomile, lavender, geranium, clary sage, rose, clove, and citrus oils. SAFETY: avoid use with anti-coagulant medication.

 

Ho Leaf

Character:  uplifting, enlivening, stabilizing. Used to counteract:  hysteria, wrinkles and all skin types, stimulates immune system, headache. Blends well with:  orange, coriander, frankincense, sandalwood, lavender, basil. SAFETY:  avoid in pregnancy.

Hyssop

Character:  clarity, purity of spirit, rejuvenating, directional, inspirational. Used to counteract:  anxiey, fatigue, inflammation, low or high blood pressure, respiratory system, sore throat, indigestion, colds, flu, spiritual confusion. Blends well with:  lemon, clary-sage, sage, lavender, rosemary. SAFETY:  Do not use if pregnant or epileptic.

Jasmine          

Character:  euphoric, sensuality, welcoming, intuitive, and soothing. Used to counteract:  depression, anxiety, dry greasy irritated skin, muscular spasm, hoarseness, laryngitis, frigidity, uterine disorders, emotional abuse, stress. Blends well with:  cypress, clary-sage, sandalwood, rose, all citruses.

 

Juniperberry   

Character:  cleansing, purifying, sacredness, visionary. Used to counteract:  dissatisfaction, abuse,hair loss, haemorrhoids, skin toner, accumulation of toxins, arteriosclerosis, cellulitis, obesity, gout, rheumatism, colds, flu, infections. Blends well with:  sandalwood, cedarwood, vetivert, pine, clary-sage, cypress, lavender, rosemary, geranium, citruses. SAFETY:  Do NOT use if pregnant, or if you have kidney disease.

 

Lavender

Character:  harmonious, calming, healing, caring, compassionate, embracing.     Used to counteract:  anxiety, irritability, stress, hysteria, abcesses, acne, allergies, athlete’s foot, boils, burns, dandruff, earache, eczema, insect repellent, psoriasis, spots, sunburn, all skin types, wounds, lumbago, muscular aches, asthma, halitosis, laryngitis, stomach cramps, colic, flu, insomnia, migraine, sciatica, nightmares, addiction, burn out. the scent to be appealing or not.  All other oils should not be used if the client does not like the scent.

 

Lemon

Character:  purifying, stimulating, directional, versatile. Used to counteract:  depression, brittle nails, boils, herpes, varicose veins, warts, arthritis obesity, cellulite, poor circulation, high blood pressure, nosebleeds, infections, touchy, bad attitudes, Blends well with:  lavender, pine, cedarwood, eucalyptus, fennel, juniper, ylang ylang, coriander, benzoin. SAFETY:  Use is low dilution on sensitive skin.

 

Lemongrass

Character:  concentration, focus. Used to counteract:  nervous exhaustion, stress related disorders, athletes foot, excessive perspiration, insect repellent, tissue toner, colitis, gastroenteritis, slack tissue, fevers, headaches. Blends well with:  juniper, pine, eucalyptus, geranium, lavender, lime, sandalwood, rosemary, coriander, orange, basil. SAFETY:  May irritate sensitive skin, do not use on face.    

 

Lime    

Character:  purifying, stimulating, directional, versatile. Used to counteract:  depression, brittle nails, boils, herpes, varicose veins, warts, arthritis obesity, cellulite, poor circulation, high blood pressure, nosebleeds, infections, touchy, bad attitudes, Blends well with:  lavender, pine, cedarwood, eucalyptus, fennel, juniper, ylang ylang, coriander, benzoin. Mandarine     

Character:  gentle, peaceful, revitalizing, sympathetic. Used to counteract:  anxiety, depression, scars, stretch marks, fluid retention, obesity, intestinal problems, insomnia, acne, congested and oily skin, dwelling on the past, emotional trauma. Blends well with:  fennel, coriander, frankincense, lavender, nutmeg, cinnamon, clove,  all citruses. SAFETY:  Do not use on skin before direct exposure to sun.

 

Marjoram Sweet

Character:  comforting, soothing, warming, strengthening. Used to counteract:  hysteria, hostility, anger, weak will, withdrawn, bruises, ticks, arthritis, muscular aches, colic, constipation, amenorrhea, dysmenorrhoea, PMT, migraine. Blends well with:  rosemary, chamomile, cypress, lavender, cedarwood,  tea tree, eucalyptus, bergamot. SAFETY:  Do not use during pregnancy.

 

Myrrh       

Character:  relaxing, spiritual, strength, courage. Used to counteract:  restlessness, agitation, hysteria, athlete’s foot, dry chapped skin, ringworm, wrinkles, asthma, gum infections, gingivitis, loss of appetite, thrush, colds, voice loss, Blends well with:  frankincense, cypress, sandalwood, mandarin, juniper, thyme, patchouli, geranium, lavender, pine, benzoin. SAFETY:  Do not use during pregnancy.

 

Neroli              

Character:  spiritual, pure, loving, peaceful. Used to counteract:  anxiety, stress, sadness, hopelessness, scars, stretch marks, thread veins mature, sensitive skin, tones the complexion, wrinkles, spasm, colic, anxiety, palpitations. Blends well with:  all oils, especially ylang ylang, lemon, jasmine, rose, lavender, coriander, geranium, sage, benzoin. SAFETY:  rare reports of dermatitis and photosensitivity.

 

Nutmeg

Character:  aphrodisiac, stimulant. Used to counteract:  lack of energy, tiredness, depression, anxiety, indigestion, flatulence, Sluggish digestion, bacterial infection, impotence, neuralgia, frigidity. Blends well with:  orange, clary sage, geranium, lime, mandarin, rosemary, coriander, other spice oils, benzoin, ylang ylang. SAFETY:  Use in moderation.  Do not use during pregnancy.

 

Orange    

Character:  warming, happy, resolute, energizing. Used to counteract:  depression, resignation, self-consciousness, worry, addiction, dull complexions, obesity, palpitations, water retention, bronchitis, constipation, flu, colds, spasm. Blends well with:  neroli, lemon, lavender, myrrh, clary sage, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, ylang ylang, black pepper. SAFETY:  Do not use on skin before exposure to direct sunlight.

 

Palmarosa    

Character:  calming, uplifting, refreshing, clarifying. Used to counteract:  nervous exhaustion, stress related conditions, tension, agitation, dermatitis, Minor skin infecitons, scars, sores, wrinkles, stimulates cellular regeneration, moisturizes, regulates sebum production, anorexia, digestive atonia. Blends well with:  sandalwood, cedarwood, geranium, rose, jasmine, coriander, lemon, frankincense, & rosemary

              

Patchouli            

Character:  grounding, soothing, assured. Used to counteract:  indecision, mood-swings, touchiness, egotism, acne, cracked & chapped skin, dandruff, dermatitis, eczema-weeping, fungal infections, impetigo, insect repellent, open pores, wounds. Blends well with:  sandalwood, lavender, rose, cedarwood, vetiver, clove, myrrh, bergamot, neroli, clary sage.

 

Peppermint     

Character:  revitalizing, balancing, restoring, clarifying. Used to counteract:  mental fatigue, shock, helplessness, over work, apathy, acne, dermatiits, ringworm, scabies, toothache, neuralgia, muscular pain, palpitations, asthma, halitosis, sinusitis, spasmodic cough, antispasmodic action excellent for asthma, nausea, fainting, headaches, migraine. Blends well with:  lemon, rosemary, lavender, marjoram, eucalyptus, benzoin, geranium, ginger, chamomile, pine. SAFETY:  Possible sensitization, use in moderation.

 

Petitgrain

Character:  revitalizing, balancing, restoring, clarifying. Used to counteract:  confusion,  introversion, pessimism, greasy skin and hair, toning, convalescence, insomnia, stress related conditions. Blends well with:  bergamot, lavender, geranium, rosemary, orange, nerali, jasmine, clary sage, benzoin, palmarosa, clove, juniper.

 

Pine

Character:  acceptance, understanding, patience, self forgiveness. Used to counteract:  regrets, guilt, self blame, non confrontational, feeling rejected, cuts, lice, excessive perspiration, sores, arthritis, rheumatism, sinusitis, urinary infection, neuralgia. Blends well with:  sage, tea tree, rosemary, cedarwood, lemon, eucalyptus, marjoram, lavender. SAFETY:   May irritate sensitive skin, use in moderation.

 

Rose Absolute            

Due to the natural waxes in our oil, if it has been in an area with cooler temperatures it needs to be gently warmed before adding to fixed oils like jojoba.  We are very pleased with this because it is much more natural than vacuum stripped oils in ethanol, which is what is done to concretes produced after hexane extraction.  The wax element has a beautiful aroma on its own, giving this oil a more beautiful aroma than that of Rose Otto, which dissolves in fixed oil after warming as well. This oil is extracted from the petals with R134a (Klea a propellant for inhalers used by those with asthma), This extraction method gives you the closest scent to an actual rose petal. Character:  passionate, harmonious, reassuring, comforting. Used to counteract:  fear of letting go, fear of sexuality, passivity, lack of ambition, broken capillaries, conjunctivitis (rose water), dry skin, eczema, herpes, mature and sensitive complexions, *wrinkles*, palpitations, poor circulation, hay fever, liver congestion, irregular menstruation, impotence, frigidity. Rosemary

Character:  overworked, strain, acne, dandruff, greasy hair, insect repellent, promotes hair growth, regulates seborrhea, varicose veins, arteriosclerosis, fluid retention, gout, asthma, jaundice… Blends well with:  citronella, peppermint, thyme, lavender, basil, petitgrain, cinnamon, cedarwood, bergamot, ginger, marjoram, fennel, cajeput, clary sage, jasmine, black pepper, grapefruit, cypress. SAFETY:  Do not use during pregnancy, if you have high blood pressure, or if epileptic.    

 

Sage    

Character:  self awareness, purifying, focus. Used to counteract:  pain, nervous exhaustion, stress related conditions. Blends well with:  hyssop, rosemary, lavender, lemon, and other citrus oils. SAFETY:  Do not use during pregnancy.

 

Sandalwood               

Character:  enlightment, meditative, balancing, connecting. Used to counteract:  possessiveness, manipulating, unforgiving, loneliness, obsessiveness, cynicism, insecurity, recurrent nightmares, dwelling on past, barber’s rash, men’s moisturizer, bronchitis, dry coughs, laryngitis, catarrh. Blends well with:  clove, lavender, rose, geranium, bergamot, bl. pepper, benzoin, myrrh, jasmine, patchouli, vetivert.

 

Tea Tree    

Used to counteract:  hypochondria, abscess, acne, athlete’s foot, blisters, burns, cold sores , Dandruff, herpes, insect bites, oily skin, nappy rash, spots, warts, infected wounds, asthma, Coughs, sinusitis, tuberculosis, whooping cough, thrush, vaginitis, yeast infections, immunity booster. Blends well with:  lavender, clary sage, rosemary, pine, geranium, marjoram, spice oils.

 

Thyme Wild   

Character:  gently empowering, invigorating, assisting. Used to counteract:  lack of direction, intellectual or physical exhaustion,  emotional blockages, insect bites, abscess, cuts, lice, gum infections, cellulite, sports injuries, sprains, obesity, sore throat, poor circulation, tonsillitis, diarrhoea, chills, colds, flu, infectious diseases. Vetivert   

Character:  grounding, centering, visionary, wise.    Used to counteract:  overwork, agitation, hurt, scattered thoughts, arthritis, stiffness, debility, depression, insomnia, deeply relaxing and very valuable in massage and bath, disconnection, fantasizing. Blends well with:  jasmine, clary sage, rose, sandalwood, lavender, patchouli, ylang ylang. SAFETY:  rare reports of dermatitis in hypersensitive individuals.

 

Ylang Ylang

Character:  euphoric, sensuous, stimulating, unifying. Used to counteract:  depression, frustration, irritability, resentment, shyness, impatience, acne, hair growth, hair rinse, irritated skin, high blood pressure, abnormally fast breathing, tachycardia, palpitations, frigidity, impotence, insomnia, anger born of frustration. Blends well with:  jasmine, bergamot, vetivert, rose, orange, sandalwood. SAFETY:  Do not use on inflamed skin or dermatitis conditions, excess may cause nausea or headache.
